In what is considered the “heart of Old Uppsala,” archeologists in Sweden have been working on archaeological surveys and recently excavated what they believe to be evidence of a pre-Viking building. At 50 meters long and 12 meters wide, the house is considered very large for its time, probably used for parties, official receptions and religious ceremonies. Many fragments are extremely well preserved after the house was burned down in early Viking times in the 700s, though probably not by the Vikings.
